Who are we?
Ray Oldenburg, author of ‘The Great Good Place’, calls one’s first place as the home and those that one lives with. He calls the workplace as the second place – where people may actually spend most of their time: and he defines third places as anchors of community life.
According to Oldenburg, the hallmarks of a true third place are: free or inexpensive food and drink, while not essential, are important highly accessible proximate for many (walking distance) involve regulars – those who habitually congregate there welcoming and comfortable both new friends and old should be found there.
This site posts insights and experiences of those who frequently visit The Third Place.

I am writing a paper on “the third place” in Danish. I haven´t got Oldenburg´s book yet though. Could you help me? It´s urgent. I have to hand in the paper on Monday. I´ve tried everything, libraries and bookstores. Good links on the internet would be very helpful. Thank you.
Best regards
Peter Röder (Cand.mag. in English, University of Copenhagen)
Ps. The paper in in library research. Apparently, and I agree, libraries can be seen as “third places”.
